Adiponectin Receptors in Diabetes

Adiponectin is a critical hormone secreted by adipose tissue that plays a significant role in regulating glucose levels and fatty acid oxidation. In individuals with diabetes, the expression of adiponectin receptors (AdipoR1 and AdipoR2) is often diminished, leading to insulin resistance and metabolic dysfunction. These receptors are integral to signaling pathways that enhance insulin sensitivity, reduce inflammation, and promote lipid metabolism. Adiponectin not only helps in glucose homeostasis but also exhibits anti-inflammatory effects that can protect against cardiovascular complications commonly associated with diabetes. Research into the mechanisms governing adiponectin receptor signaling could unveil novel therapeutic targets, potentially improving metabolic health and reducing diabetes-related complications.
