Adipose Tissue Dysfunction in Diabetes

Adipose tissue is crucial for energy storage and metabolic regulation. In diabetes, adipose tissue becomes dysfunctional, exhibiting altered hormone secretion and chronic inflammation. This dysfunction contributes to insulin resistance, exacerbating hyperglycemia and increasing the risk of complications. Inflammatory cytokines released from dysfunctional adipose tissue can further impair insulin signaling, creating a cycle of metabolic dysregulation. Interventions aimed at restoring adipose tissue function, such as weight loss, increased physical activity, and dietary changes, are vital for improving insulin sensitivity and overall metabolic health in diabetic individuals.
