In diabetic patients, the activity of these enzymes can be diminished, leading to increased oxidative stress and contributing to the development of complications like neuropathy and retinopathy. Enhancing antioxidant enzyme activity through dietary interventions rich in antioxidants, such as fruits and vegetables, or through supplementation may provide protective benefits. Research indicates that improving the antioxidant capacity in diabetic patients can mitigate oxidative damage and support better overall metabolic health, highlighting the importance of maintaining optimal antioxidant enzyme function in diabetes management.
