Cellular Signaling Pathways in Diabetes

Cellular signaling pathways are vital in the onset and advancement of diabetes. The insulin signaling pathway, which includes critical molecules like PI3K and Akt, is essential for facilitating glucose uptake and metabolism. When these pathways become dysregulated, it results in insulin resistance and dysfunction of the beta cells. Furthermore, pathways related to inflammation and oxidative stress also play a significant role in the complications that arise from diabetes. By gaining a deeper understanding of these signaling mechanisms, researchers can identify potential therapeutic targets aimed at enhancing insulin sensitivity and improving the overall metabolic health of individuals with diabetes.
