Hormone Replacement Therapy in Diabetes

Hormone replacement therapy (HRT) is primarily used to alleviate symptoms associated with menopause, but its impact on diabetes management is an area of growing interest. Estrogen has been shown to improve insulin sensitivity and lipid profiles, which can be beneficial for women with diabetes. However, the relationship between HRT and diabetes is complex, as some studies suggest an increased risk of thrombosis and other cardiovascular events. Careful consideration of individual health profiles is necessary when prescribing HRT, emphasizing the need for personalized approaches to optimize both menopausal symptoms and metabolic health in diabetic patients.
