Hypoglycemia in diabetes occurs when blood sugar levels drop below the normal range, typically less than 70 mg/dL. It is common among individuals managing diabetes with insulin or certain oral medications. Symptoms include shakiness, sweating, dizziness, confusion, and in severe cases, loss of consciousness. Factors such as skipping meals, excessive insulin doses, intense physical activity, or alcohol consumption can trigger hypoglycemia. Managing hypoglycemia involves quick treatment with fast-acting carbohydrates like glucose tablets, fruit juice, or candies. For long-term management, regular monitoring of blood glucose levels, adjusting medication, and maintaining a consistent meal plan are essential. In severe cases, glucagon injections may be required to restore blood sugar.
