In this condition, the immune system mistakenly attacks and destroys insulin-producing beta cells in the pancreas, leading to insufficient insulin production. This dysfunction not only affects glucose regulation but also compromises the body’s ability to combat infections, making individuals with diabetes more susceptible to illnesses.
Additionally, Type 2 diabetes is associated with chronic low-grade inflammation, which can alter immune responses and exacerbate insulin resistance. Factors such as obesity and high blood sugar levels can contribute to this inflammatory state. Maintaining a balanced immune response through proper diet, exercise, and glucose control is essential for reducing complications related to diabetes and enhancing overall health.
