Leptin Resistance in Diabetes

Leptin is a hormone produced by adipose tissue that regulates energy balance and appetite. In diabetes, leptin resistance occurs when the body becomes unresponsive to elevated leptin levels, leading to uncontrolled hunger and increased fat storage. This resistance is often linked to chronic inflammation and insulin resistance, creating a cycle that exacerbates metabolic dysfunction. As a result, individuals with diabetes may struggle with obesity, further impairing their metabolic health. Strategies to combat leptin resistance include weight loss, dietary modifications, and increased physical activity. Improving leptin sensitivity may enhance appetite regulation and support better glycemic control in diabetic patients.
