Maturity-Onset Diabetes

Maturity-Onset Diabetes, commonly known as Type 2 diabetes, typically develops in adults, often after the age of 45, though it is increasingly seen in younger populations due to rising obesity rates. This form of diabetes is characterized by insulin resistance, where the body does not use insulin effectively, leading to elevated blood sugar levels. Risk factors encompass genetic predisposition, a lack of physical activity, and unhealthy eating habits. Unlike Type 1 diabetes, where the body fails to produce insulin, Type 2 diabetes can often be managed or even reversed through lifestyle changes such as weight loss, regular physical activity, and a balanced diet. Early diagnosis and intervention are crucial in preventing complications, such as heart disease, nerve damage, and kidney problems. Regular monitoring of blood sugar levels is essential for maintaining overall health and well-being in individuals diagnosed with this condition.
