Microbiota-Gut-Brain Axis in Diabetes

The microbiota-gut-brain axis plays a crucial role in regulating metabolic processes and has significant implications for diabetes. The gut microbiome influences insulin sensitivity, appetite regulation, and inflammation, all of which are critical factors in diabetes management. Dysbiosis, or an imbalance in gut bacteria, has been linked to insulin resistance and impaired glucose metabolism. Emerging research suggests that interventions such as probiotics, prebiotics, and dietary modifications can positively affect the gut microbiome, potentially improving glycemic control. Understanding the interactions between the gut microbiota, brain, and metabolic health offers new avenues for diabetes treatment and prevention.
