Nutrient Metabolism Disorders in Diabetes

Diabetes significantly disrupts nutrient metabolism, leading to disorders that affect carbohydrates, fats, and proteins. Insulin deficiency or resistance hampers glucose uptake, resulting in elevated blood sugar levels (hyperglycemia). At the same time, lipid metabolism can become imbalanced, contributing to dyslipidemia and heightening the risk of cardiovascular disease. Furthermore, protein metabolism may be impaired, leading to muscle loss and overall health deterioration. To address these metabolic challenges, it is crucial to adopt a balanced diet rich in whole foods and to carefully monitor macronutrient intake. Regular physical activity, along with diligent tracking of blood glucose levels, plays a vital role in effective diabetes management and in reducing the risk of associated complications.
