Pancreatic Response in Diabetes

In diabetes, the pancreatic response plays a crucial role in regulating blood sugar levels. The pancreas contains clusters of cells called islets of Langerhans, where beta cells produce insulin, a hormone essential for glucose regulation. In Type 1 diabetes, an autoimmune attack destroys these beta cells, halting insulin production and leading to uncontrolled blood sugar. In Type 2 diabetes, insulin resistance develops in the body, causing the pancreas to initially overproduce insulin. Over time, this demand exhausts the beta cells, diminishing insulin output. Consequently, blood sugar rises, contributing to the complications associated with diabetes. Managing pancreatic health through lifestyle choices and medication is vital for maintaining glucose balance in diabetic patients.
