Parathyroid hormone (PTH) plays a pivotal role in calcium and phosphate homeostasis, and emerging research suggests its involvement in glucose metabolism and diabetes pathophysiology. In diabetic patients, altered PTH levels may influence insulin sensitivity and secretion, potentially contributing to the development of complications. Elevated PTH levels have been associated with insulin resistance, while low levels can impair insulin secretion from pancreatic beta cells. Understanding the relationship between PTH and diabetes can provide insights into metabolic control and bone health in these patients. Therapeutic interventions targeting PTH signaling pathways may offer new strategies for managing diabetes, particularly in those with concomitant metabolic bone disorders. Ongoing research into PTH’s role in glucose metabolism will enhance our understanding of its implications for diabetes management and patient outcomes.
