Peripheral artery disease (PAD) is a prevalent complication in diabetic patients, resulting from atherosclerosis that narrows peripheral arteries, particularly in the legs. This condition is exacerbated by diabetes-related risk factors, such as hyperglycemia, hypertension, and dyslipidemia. PAD can lead to significant morbidity, including intermittent claudication, pain, and, in severe cases, limb ischemia or amputation. Regular screening for PAD in diabetic patients is vital for early detection and management. Lifestyle modifications, such as smoking cessation and exercise, combined with pharmacotherapy, can improve blood flow and reduce the risk of serious complications associated with PAD.
