Pituitary Gland Regulation in Diabetes

The pituitary gland plays a crucial regulatory role in the endocrine system, influencing several hormones involved in glucose metabolism. In diabetes, dysregulation of pituitary function can affect the secretion of hormones such as growth hormone, adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH), and thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH). Elevated levels of cortisol from the adrenal cortex, stimulated by ACTH, can lead to insulin resistance, exacerbating hyperglycemia. Furthermore, alterations in growth hormone levels can disrupt metabolic processes, influencing lipid and carbohydrate metabolism.
