Polyuria and polydipsia are classic symptoms of diabetes that result from uncontrolled hyperglycemia. When blood glucose levels exceed the renal threshold, excess glucose is excreted in the urine, leading to increased urination (polyuria). This process draws water with it, causing dehydration, which triggers excessive thirst (polydipsia). These symptoms are not just uncomfortable; they also indicate underlying metabolic disturbances that require urgent attention. Effective diabetes management through lifestyle changes, medication adherence, and regular monitoring can alleviate these symptoms, improve hydration status, and enhance the overall quality of life for individuals living with diabetes.
