Proinflammatory Markers in Diabetes

Proinflammatory markers such as tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α), interleukin-6 (IL-6), and C-reactive protein (CRP) play a critical role in the development and progression of diabetes. These markers contribute to insulin resistance, impairing glucose metabolism and promoting the onset of type 2 diabetes. Chronic low-grade inflammation is often observed in obese individuals, leading to an exacerbated inflammatory response. Elevated levels of these markers not only serve as indicators of metabolic dysfunction but also increase the risk of cardiovascular diseases associated with diabetes. Interventions that reduce inflammation, such as lifestyle modifications and specific pharmacotherapies, may improve insulin sensitivity and mitigate the risks associated with diabetic complications.
