In diabetes, particularly uncontrolled diabetes, protein catabolism disorders can occur due to the body’s inability to effectively utilize glucose for energy. This leads to the breakdown of muscle protein to supply energy, resulting in muscle wasting and loss of lean body mass. The excess production of ketones, a byproduct of fat metabolism, can further exacerbate metabolic disturbances. Additionally, insulin deficiency hampers the anabolic processes necessary for muscle repair and growth. Addressing these issues through proper dietary management and insulin therapy is crucial for maintaining muscle mass and overall health.
