Pulmonary Function and Glucose Control in Diabetes

Pulmonary function can be adversely affected in individuals with diabetes, contributing to respiratory complications. Studies suggest a correlation between impaired glucose control and reduced lung function, particularly in type 2 diabetes. Hyperglycemia may lead to inflammation and oxidative stress, impacting the airways and lung tissues. Moreover, diabetic patients are at an increased risk of developing conditions such as obstructive sleep apnea, which further complicates respiratory health. Effective management of blood glucose levels through lifestyle changes and medications can improve overall pulmonary function, reduce respiratory complications, and enhance quality of life for individuals living with diabetes.
