Renal Filtration Abnormalities in Diabetic Nephropathy

Diabetic nephropathy is a significant kidney complication associated with diabetes, marked by abnormalities in renal filtration. Elevated blood sugar levels cause damage to the glomeruli, which are the kidneys' filtering units, leading to proteinuria, or excess protein in the urine. As the disease advances, kidney function declines, potentially resulting in end-stage renal disease. Patients may exhibit symptoms such as swelling, fatigue, and elevated blood pressure. Early detection through regular urine tests and strict glycemic control is crucial for slowing the progression of the disease and preserving kidney function.
