Subcutaneous Glucose Monitoring for Diabetes

Subcutaneous glucose monitoring has revolutionized diabetes management by providing continuous real-time glucose data. Devices like continuous glucose monitors (CGMs) use sensors placed under the skin to measure interstitial glucose levels, allowing for more precise glycemic control. This technology helps patients track their glucose trends, identify patterns, and make informed decisions about insulin dosing and dietary choices. Unlike traditional fingerstick testing, CGMs provide alerts for hypo- and hyperglycemic events, enhancing safety and awareness. Additionally, data integration with insulin pumps enables automated insulin delivery, further optimizing management. The adoption of subcutaneous glucose monitoring has shown improved glycemic control, reduced HbA1c levels, and increased patient satisfaction. However, it requires patient education on device usage and interpretation of data to maximize its benefits effectively.
