Dysfunction in this system can contribute to severe complications, including cardiovascular disease and neuropathy. Studying the interaction between the UPS and diabetes could open avenues for new treatments, such as drugs designed to enhance proteasome activity or specifically target problematic proteins. Understanding UPS involvement may help improve metabolic control and reduce diabetes complications.
