Biography:
Prof. Dr. Vivek Gupta has been serving as a Senior Interventional Cardiologist at Indraprastha Apollo Hospitals, New Delhi, since 1998. He specializes in clinical and invasive procedures, including coronary angiography, balloon angioplasty, stenting, valvuloplasty, and pacemaker implantation. Dr. Gupta is the Founder Course Chairman of the International Cardiology Teaching Course—Indo-European Course on Revascularization (IECR), which provides advanced training for young interventional cardiologists. The course has received accreditation from the European Board of Cardiology and collaborates with the American College of Cardiology.
Dr. Gupta's medical qualifications include an MBBS (1987), MD in Medicine (1991), and a DM in Cardiology (1994). He further pursued a fellowship in interventional cardiology at Hospital Charles Nicolle, Rouen, France, from 1996 to 1998, under the mentorship of Prof. Alain Cribier, a global authority in angioplasty and valvuloplasty. Dr. Gupta is a distinguished Fellow of several prestigious cardiology societies, including the American College of Cardiology (FACC), European Society of Cardiology (FESC), Asia Pacific Society of Interventional Cardiology (FAPSIC), European Society of Percutaneous Coronary Interventions (FESPCI), Society of Cardiovascular Angiography and Interventions (FSCAI), Indo-European Interventional Council (FIEIC), Cardiological Society of India (FCSI), and the Indian College of Cardiology (FICC).
Dr. Gupta has performed over 10,000 coronary angiographies and more than 5,000 coronary angioplasties and stent implantations, both in India and abroad. He played a pivotal role in introducing primary angioplasty (performed during a heart attack) and multivessel angioplasty with stent implantation (deploying more than two or three stents) in India upon his return from France. Additionally, he is an expert in the novel technique of Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation (TAVI), a non-surgical valve replacement procedure.
