Title : Mindfulness in diabetes care: Research, theory, and practice

Abstract:

Mindfulness is a state of nonjudgmental awareness, curiosity, and openness to the present moment. This presentation will share the historical roots and contemporary definition of mindfulness, followed by a summary of the scientific research examining the benefits of mindfulness for people with diabetes. Next, examples of ways in which mindfulness can be integrated into common diabetes experiences will be shared. The presentation will conclude with an opportunity for a short, guided mindfulness practice and reflection. Resources will also be shared for additional ways to learn and practice mindfulness to support individuals through the highs and lows of life with diabetes.
