Abstract:
Beyond daily injections: Implementing once-weekly basal insulin to simplify and personalize care is designed for us-based endocrinologists and endocrinology-focused NPs and PAs in the management of patients with Type 2 Diabetes (T2D). Once-weekly basal insulin regimens are poised to enter the treatment armamentarium for diabetes management. Gaps in understanding the unique molecular design and pharmacology of, and latest clinical data on these novel formulations may contribute to therapeutic inertia and delayed implementation of a more convenient, flexible, and potentially safer alternative to daily insulin regimens for patients with T2D.

He is board-certified in internal medicine, endocrinology, and metabolism. His clinical and research activities have focused on exploring novel agents and therapeutic strategies to improve glycemic control, particularly early insulin intervention with combination strategies in type 2 diabetes. He has contributed to the development of the concept of fixed-ratio combinations of basal insulin with a GLP-1 receptor agonist (GLP-1 RA). Over the past 30 years, he has participated in hundreds of clinical trials and played an active role in the development of new oral agents and insulin preparations, often serving as a lead clinical investigator and scientific advisor. He has authored or co-authored more than 470 publications, including peer-reviewed papers and numerous abstracts.
