Assessment of Glycemic Control in Diabetes

Glycemic control is crucial in managing diabetes to prevent complications like cardiovascular disease, kidney failure, and nerve damage. It involves monitoring and regulating blood glucose levels through lifestyle modifications, medications, and regular blood testing. The most common assessments include fasting blood sugar (FBS), postprandial glucose (PPG), and glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c) tests. HbA1c reflects average blood sugar levels over two to three months and is a key indicator of long-term glucose control. Patients can also benefit from continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) devices that provide real-time data, helping in personalized treatment plans. Effective glycemic control requires a combination of proper diet, exercise, medication adherence, and regular medical check-ups.
