Complications of Diabetes

Diabetes can lead to a variety of complications that affect multiple body systems, making it crucial for individuals to manage their condition effectively. One of the most common complications is cardiovascular disease, as diabetes increases the risk of heart attacks and strokes. Additionally, neuropathy, which is nerve damage, can cause symptoms such as pain, tingling, or a loss of sensation, especially in the feet and hands. Retinopathy, or damage to the eyes, can lead to vision impairment or blindness if untreated. Kidney damage, known as diabetic nephropathy, may also occur, potentially resulting in kidney failure. Furthermore, diabetes can impair the body’s ability to heal wounds, increasing the risk of infections and amputations. Regular monitoring, medication adherence, and a healthy lifestyle are essential for minimizing these risks and promoting long-term well-being.
