Incidence of Diabetic Complications

Diabetes can lead to a range of serious complications, significantly impacting quality of life. The most common complications include cardiovascular disease, which increases the risk of heart attack and stroke; neuropathy, resulting in nerve damage and pain; nephropathy, leading to kidney failure; and retinopathy, causing vision impairment or blindness. According to the World Health Organization, approximately 1 in 10 adults globally are affected by diabetes, and nearly half of these individuals may develop complications over time. Effective management of blood glucose levels, regular medical check-ups, and lifestyle modifications—such as maintaining a healthy diet and engaging in regular physical activity—are crucial in reducing the incidence of these complications. Early detection and proactive treatment can significantly enhance outcomes and minimize the long-term effects of diabetes on health.
