Management of Diabetes with Medications

Managing diabetes with medications involves using prescribed drugs to control blood sugar levels and prevent complications. For type 1 diabetes, insulin therapy is essential, as the body doesn’t produce insulin. Patients may use short-acting, intermediate, or long-acting insulin based on their needs. Type 2 diabetes management often includes oral medications like metformin, which helps lower glucose production in the liver, or sulfonylureas that stimulate insulin production. Newer medications such as GLP-1 receptor agonists and SGLT-2 inhibitors also aid in controlling blood sugar and promoting weight loss. Regular monitoring and adjustments are necessary to ensure medications work effectively alongside a healthy diet and lifestyle.
